On this date in 1948 the U.S. Supreme Court decision of case
Sipuel v.
Oklahoma State Board of Regents said an state must afford Blacks "an opportunity to commence the study of law at a state institution at the same time as any other citizens." Before this decision most blacks were forced to study law at HBCUs or overseas.
On this date in 1971 The Congressional Black Caucus organized. The CBC is an organization representing the African American members of the United States Congress. Congresswoman Barbara Lee was sworn in as the new Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus on January 5th 2009.
