Bird Still Lives...

One of the founders of the modern jazz movement Charlie Parker died on this date in 1955 in New York City. Parker is widely considered one of the most influential jazz musicans ever. Parker is known for his role is the delevopment of "Bebop" with his play on the saxophone. Charlie got the nickname "Yardbird" as a youth and later shortened it to "Bird", which he would be known as in the Jazz world by friends and fans. Even the club he was a regular at became known as "Birdland".
