Today In Black History: Arthur Dorrington
On this date in 1950 Arthur Dorrington became the first Black to play organized hockey in the United States when he signed with the Atlantic City Seagulls. The team played in the Eastern Amateur League. Arthur Dorrington never got the chance to play in the NHL but was scouted by the New York Rangers and several other teams. Dorrington only played with the Seagulls one season but spent time on teams in Washington, Baltimore, and Charlotte, North Carolina. During the off-season, Dorrington was a full time dentist.
