On this date in 1927 Coretta Scott was born in Marion, Al. She would go on to marry Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1953 and be an integral part of his civil rights movement in the 50's and 60's. After her husband's assassination, Coretta continued to play a role in the fight for the rights of blacks and women in America.
