The Revolution Never Dies...

On this date in 1972, Kwame Nkrumah who was the first president of Ghana, died in exile, in Conarky, Guinea. Nkruman was an very influential advocate in the 20th century of Pan-Africanism. Along with helping Ghana gain Independence, he also helped establish the Organization of African Unity (OAU). Like Nkrumah, many believe his government was overthrown with the help of the CIA because he was seen as a future force in the growing independent Continent. He lived in exile in Guinea as the guest of President Ahmed Sékou Touré, who made him honorary co-president of the country.
