On this date in 1933 Cicely Tyson was born in New York City, the daughter of immigrants from the Caribbean island of Nevis. Tyson is a famous actress who starred in movies such as Roots, Sounder, and A Woman Called Moses. She won two Emmy Awards for her performance in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. Cicely was once married to famous jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
