Today In Black History: Black Entertainment Television (BET)

On this date in 1980 Black Entertainment Television (BET) began broadcasting out of Washington, D.C. Robert L. Johnson founded the network after stepping down as a lobbyist for the cable industry. BET has since branched out to create BET On Jazz, BET Gospel, and BET Hip-Hop.
