Today In Black History: Arthur Ashe
On this date in 1970 Arthur Ashe was denied entry to compete on the US Team for the South African Open tennis championships due to Ashe's sentiments on South Africa's racial policies. Ashe was arrested on January 11, 1985, for protesting outside the South African embassy in Washington, D.C. during an anti-apartheid rally. He was also arrested again on September 9, 1992, outside the White House for protesting on the crackdown on Haitian refugees.
